NAR Settlement FAQ and Resources
There is a lot of information circulating about the NAR Settlement and many news sources are getting inaccurate information. Get your facts here from our state and national associations.
On March 15, 2024, the National Association of Realtors® announced a proposed settlement agreement that would end litigation of claims brought on behalf of home sellers related to broker commissions. The agreement would resolve claims against NAR, over one million NAR members, all state/territorial and local Realtor® associations, all association-owned Multiple Listing Services (MLSs), and all brokerages with an NAR member as principal that had a residential transaction volume in 2022 of $2 billion or below. The settlement is subject to court approval.

On Friday, March 15, 2024, the National Association of REALTORS® announced a proposed settlement on a series of ongoing class action lawsuits.
Some of the class action lawsuits have been pending for several years, and the settlement was announced with very little notice. At this time, Virginia REALTORS® is working through what is a very complicated legal document that must still be approved by the court.
“As an association, we are doing our due diligence to ensure that our members will be educated and able to comply with the terms and spirit of the settlement agreement,” says Tom Campbell, Virginia REALTORS® 2024 President.
